Our story
Wouldn't the world be wonderful if people looked forward to getting older? You would feel excited about the opportunities, and know that you would be able to stay in charge of your life. Instead of age weighing on your mind, you would feel that whatever your circumstances you would be able to find ways to make the most out of every moment!
The reality is that getting older is a night-and-day-mare for millions. People feel less and less empowered and often distraught. Staying in touch with people and keeping on top of life's tasks feels increasingly like a mountain-climb. Isolation, neglect and fear for the future takes over. Children and loved ones are often not sure what to do for the best, and they are often under pressure themselves. 'The System' tries to maintain the basics but in many places this is a losing battle; the resources simply don't exist.
This is where Circles come in. We use the knowledge and the insight we have gained through working with 1,000's of older people across the country to generate a whole host of services, tools, ideas and opportunities that can give people new choices about how they live their older life. We start with people where they are and offer 'ways and means' for them to make progress (whatever progress means to them). Once they have started to use Circle successfully, members feel more confident and start to develop new relationships and innovative support systems of their own.
We know that everyone has issues in their lives, and that these become more difficult to deal with in later life. We also know that people will help others. Our role is simple; we provide spaces for people to meet and form very natural social relationships and the opportunity for lifes issues to be discussed and solved using the power of these relationships.
